National Nutrition Month

March 12, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This month is officially National Nutrition Month, and with easter eggs filling the shelves at your local supermarkets, you should make sure you know what your eating.

National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education and information campaign created by the American Dietetic Association. The campaign is designed to focus attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. NNM also promotes ADA and its members to the public and the media as the most valuable and credible source of timely, scientifically-based food and nutrition information.

Here are a few things you should watch out for in your foods:

.Hydrogenated products (usually hydorgenated oils or fats)
. Aspartame- a substance that you probably eat every day. Aspartame can be found in things such as fizzy drinks and chewing gum, but what you probably don’t know is that it is thought to lead to cancer, and some argue brain damage!

.Palm oil- a controversial oil, some say it is harmless, and even healthy, but some argue it has a similar effect to that of hydrogenated fats and trans fats. This effect, in short, blocks your arteries.

So be careful!
