Lowe House

February 4, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Lowe House is situated in a wonderful part of St Helens. A beautiful church set in a court yard. This retreat was supposed to be chance for pupils from each form in year seven to have a sense of community and a feeling of self worth.

The trips will take place from Tuesday the 22nd of January till Friday the 25th. this was a chance for year seven pupils to achieve a feeling of Personal enhancement and spiritual development. This a chance for pupils to explore what different individuals can give to the community in a range of different activities.

Greg from year 7 who went on the trip on Tuesday told me “we did numerous team building exercises. It was a great chance for me to get to understand what I’m good at and other people’s qualities.”

When I interviewed pupils and teachers who went on the trip, I got the feeling that everyone involved felt it has enhanced the feeling of community in their year group. Felicity, Caragh, Olivia and Elizabeth enjoyed the games; such as hot potato, splat and human bingo. Another challenge facing the year group was to make a tower out of paper and sellotape. Olivia and Elizabeth told me with a large smile “our tower fell down, it was a complete disaster but we learnt to interact and to understand that everyone has different talents. It was great for me because we learnt new names and made some more friends with people I have never spoken to before.”

I was speaking to Jacob and Alex who had changed their approach to people they had never met before. Alex said ” A unique opportunity to display your individual and unique talents. I learnt how to work out problems quick and logically.” Jacob was telling me “it was a chance to strengthen old and new relationships. I felt better by the experience.”

One thing that was clear to me was the fact that all pupils enjoyed the trip to its limits. I didn’t hear one derogatory comment.

AlthoughI didn’t go on this retreat, all of the feedback tells me that this would be a great place to go and visit. I wish I had a chance like this in year seven.
