Last time, the facts were all random and a bit thin on the ground. So, I have decided to start doing themes, so if you have any good ideas, I’d be happy to oblige. Please send in your ideas, or leave a comment to this post.
The theme is FOOTBALL.
In a Sheffield vs. Glasgow match in 1930, the referee’s uniform matched the Sheffield players’ kit and they kept passing the ball to him! He did have to go and get changed at half time, though.
In 1962, both Coventry and Southend played in blue and white stripes. After three minutes, the game was stopped and Coventry changed into red shirts.
The first ever person to refuse to appear on the UK version of This Is Your Life was then Spurs captain, Danny Blanchflower, in 1958.
Millwall’s fanzine is called No One Likes Us. At least they’re honest!
The first ever player to be sent off in a football league game was George Best, in 1976.
Derby County and Charlton had a football burst on them twice in 1946. Once in the FA Cup final and then again in a league match less than a week later.
